While earning his associates degree from Lakeland Community College, Boomer was elected President of their chapter of Psi Beta, a national community college society in psychology.
Every year, Psi Beta hosts a mental health awareness week to help students cope with the every day stressors that arise from being a college student.
Due to the fact that Boomer's presidency began at the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Psi Beta was unable to host their annual event in the fall of 2020.
However, Boomer found Psi Beta’s mission to spread mental health awareness of the upmost importance, not only for the students, but for their community as well.
Rather then host a week long event, Psi Beta was now going to host a virtual mental health awareness semester in the spring of 2021.
Thanks largely in part to Boomer's strong belief in the importance of human connection, his enthusiasm, captivating presence, and ability to bring people together, Psi Beta organized a compilation of videos, with one being released each week of the semester.
Each video was created by various student organizations, clubs, and fields of study from all over the campus, with each video focusing on different mental health concerns, such as substance abuse, peer support, quality sleep, and perceived personal control.
The following videos are just some of the videos presented as part of the entire compilationentitled, "Together We're Resilient!"
This video was the first one released, which stood as the introduction to the entire project.
Not only did Boomer play a major role in the inception of this project, organization, and execution, he was asked to share his story of addiction for the video regarding substance abuse. This marks the first time Boomer has spoken about his addiction outside of treatment and the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. This is that video.
